Edmodo
Edmodo is a secure social learning network designed to connect teachers to parents and students. Teachers create free accounts, then create groups or classes. Students are given a code to join the teacher's classes. All communication is contained within that class, so students are safe from contact with outsiders.
Once in Edmodo, teachers can post assignments, create online quizzes and polls, or embed video or audio content. Teachers create a library of documents to share with all students, or just one class. Students can respond to questions from the teacher or from other students. Students can embed their own files to be assessed or link to a prezi, animoto, or glog to show off their work. Students are able to "direct message" their teacher using Edmodo, so they are able to ask questions privately if that makes them more comfortable.
So how does Edmodo add to your PLN? You can join a professional Edmodo Community! Your team, department, school, or district can create your own learning community to collaborate or you can join an existing Edmodo Learning Community such as the Edmodo New User Group. Click on Browse Communities and you will find topics from Math and ELA to ISTE and the Smithsonian! Join groups which match your interests and find discussions and resources to inspire you!
