Not necessarily. The beauty of social media is how it can enable you to grow as a professional. You can use social media to develop and strengthen your own PLN (Professional Learning Network) and to stay updated on the latest and greatest science news from around the world!
How many of your students can name an actual, living scientist? How about a mathematician or professor? What do today's YA authors recommend students do to improve their writing?
The power of social media is that it puts you in touch with people who are out there in the world actually doing all the awesome things you are teaching your students how to do. You can share with your students ideas and discoveries which are being discussed every day, much of it coming straight from the experts themselves.
